Located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, the Kedarnath Temple is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in India. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, making it a vital part of the Char Dham Yatra, an important pilgrimage circuit for Hindus. The journey to Kedarnath is both spiritual and adventurous. Gaurikund is easily accessible by road from Rishikesh and Haridwar, and is usually visited by tourists. To get to the temple from Gaurikund, pilgrims have two options: take a helicopter trip, which is quicker and easier, or hike 16 kilometres upwards. Due to heavy snowfall and freezing weather, the temple is only accessible to devotees in the summer and is closed during the difficult winter months. Since the Kedarnath Temple is inaccessible during the winter, the idol of Lord Shiva is relocated for devotion to the Omkareshwar temple in a nearby village.
